Your Home’s First Impression

Let’s talk about your home’s first impression. The first thing people see when they approach your home is the front door. This is a commonly overlooked part of the home, but I can tell you that it has a big impact.

For example, if you went to tour a house and the wood on the porch had seen better days, there were cobwebs hanging down, and the front door was dated or damaged, you might never make it inside to see the rest of that home because of the poor first impression that it made.

Let’s go over a few of my favorite quick and easy ways to spruce up an entryway and make it representative of the rest of the home!

Step one is to get it clean and organized. Take a few minutes to make sure the entryway is clear of clutter and everything is clean for potential buyers.

If needed, giving your home a pressure wash can be a great way to increase curb appeal and make your home look brand new.

A new welcome mat will greet your potential buyers as they enter your home. I like to use a classic and simple brown welcome mat for this.

Show off your house numbers! Elegant house numbers add a bit of eye-catching style.

Putting out potted plants is another great addition. This makes your home look lively, inviting, and well kept. Depending on the size of your space, you could go with one or two larger statement plants, or get a variety.

If you have light fixtures by your front door, check them for damage and signs of wear and tear. Updating them to modern fixtures is another easy way to increase the curb appeal of your home. The same goes for your door handles.

Add seating if you have the space. Your new light fixtures combined with a cozy seating area will create a space that buyers can see themselves enjoying.

And finally, the front door itself! For a smaller home, choosing a modern door with clean lines will help create a clean and crisp feel that maximizes the space. For a larger home, go for a statement door. Choosing a large door (or double doors) with a distinctive design can make your home more memorable.

Using these tips to match the style of your entryway with the rest of your home will give buyers a preview of what’s inside, attract people who are interested in your home, and make your home stand out against the rest!
