I Can't Afford My Home Anymore

They say that getting old beats the alternative, but I have found that it is a lot more expensive. Age and illness have caught up with some of our past clients. Life was not as much fun as it used to be for them. The upkeep, the accumulation of excess stuff that we would just “put away”, the house can very easily become a mess. When you slow down due to sickness or old age, the last thing you want to do is house chores.

I had a client that they just could not take care of themselves, let alone their home and property. Hire people to come in and clean and do the yardwork, you say? Do you know how much it costs to hire reputable landscapers, pool service, or housekeepers? Maybe, its more than they could afford. Between their mortgage payments and their medications, sometimes they cannot even afford to go out to eat socially.

Perhaps your spouse sits in a chair and watches TV or reads a book all day. You probably have a computer and play games. You may not even take walks anymore. Ever thought of how convenient it would be to have a smaller, manageable place?

You may have a beautiful house in the Lakeland area. Lakeland’s a nice place: not too exciting like the larger cities, but comfortable & fun. There is lots of people over 50+ as well.  There is also lot of young families, good schools, and it is just twenty-five miles from the beach and the Gulf. The weather is hard to beat in this prime example of Florida Real Estate.

There are a lot of things to do in and around Lakeland Florida for the 50+ crowd. One of my favorite places is the Annie Pfeiffer Chapel on the campus of Florida Southern College. It was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and harbors the biggest collection of Wright’s architecture. Also, the Detroit Tigers use the town as their spring training center. There is a wildlife safari, Safari Wilderness, that you can tour by car or on a camel. And Circle B Bar Reserve is chock full of water birds, butterflies, and lots of alligators. Good restaurants and boutique shopping used to keep us entertained. We sometimes don’t see how a larger home ties us down, where we don’t have time to enjoy. Imagine if you had the extra time to enjoy and visit these great places.

Lakeland is a great place for retirement, if you are interested in selling to downsize, it is a sellers’ market, however it’s surprising how affordable Florida Real Estate is in this neighborhood as well. One of my neighbors just sold his house, “as-is”, received a fair market value for his property, and moved out and into a retirement community. Now they have time to enjoy and visit what Lakeland has to offer. They call me a couple times a week to tell me how smooth and how much more streamlined their life is. They are enjoying life!

If you feel like you need to downsize, we have great strategies for you to sell your house to us, and possibly help in finding that smaller gem you are looking for.
